A. Linwood Holton Governor's School
What is Governor's School?
A few years ago, the state began to fund a series of Governor's Schools around the state. These schools provide special opportunities for motivated secondary school students who want to become part of an exciting and challenging program. most Governor's Schools concentrate on specific curricular area, such as science, mathematics, the arts, and/or technology. In most cases, students take either half or all of their courses each day at a central Governor's School site. The closest such site to students in this part of the state is the Southwest Virginia Governor's School in Dublin (Pulaski County).
What is the A. Linwood Holton Governor's School?
The school, named for a former Governor of Virginia raised in Southwest Virginia, uses an existing interactive broadband network of distance learning classes for some of its course work; however, the school will be implementing a wide range of "asynchronous" technologies to permit you to collaborate and share resources with fellow students and your teachers, and puts you in contact with mentors throughout the world.
Mission Statement
The mission of the A. Linwood Holton Governor's School is threefold:

to provide to area teachers, administrators, and community leaders outreach services through professional development opportunities such as workshops, seminars, and fellowships; and
