NOTE: Students who successfully complete AS-II and AS-III will get credit for Earth Science II, Advanced Survey of Earth Science Topics. This will count one unit toward the total required Laboratory Science units, but does not replace any of the required SOL science courses.

AS-I is an introduction to AFJROTC. This course emphasizes discipline, self-respect and respect for others. Cadets learn the United States Air Force Core Values – Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in all we do. Leadership Education includes: Individual Self-Control; Citizenship; and, Wellness, Health, and Fitness. Aerospace Science topics include: The Heritage of Flight, Developments of Air Power, Toward Military Aerospace, and Contemporary Aviation. Cadets will also learn basic drill and ceremony, and proper wear of the uniform. Cadets will participate in Physical Training one day each week, which includes warm-up exercises, the mile run, and various sports games such as kick ball, dodge ball, softball, and basketball. Cadets are not graded on their athletic capabilities, but on their attitude and effort.

AS-II introduces Cadets to the Science of Flight. Topics include: The Aerospace Environment, Human Requirements for Flight, Principles of Aircraft Flight, and Principles of Navigation. Leadership Education topics are: Effective Communication Skills, Understanding Individual Behavior, Understanding Group Behavior, and Basic Leadership Concepts. Cadets will refine their skills in Drill and Ceremony with at least one class each week. Physical training will also be conducted at least one day each week.

Aerospace Science III
AS-V is the Honors Ground School. The material covered is an advanced, more in-depth study of the previous aerospace topics. This course is the foundation for students interested in receiving a private pilot’s license. When the course is completed the students should be prepared to take and pass the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) written exam. The course is taught by Mr. Bob Spera, President of Liberty Flying Service. Mr. Spera is a certified flight instructor.
